To the Leaders of the Inquisition:

Aneth Ara

After nearly two months of work, my colleague Morrigan and I have managed to translate a series of Veilfire runes found in the Dales by a local Keeper, who sketched them and sent them to us. My last two reports have shown the pursuit of these ruins to be fruitful for the Inquisition. While the runes from these reports have provided useful knowledge, they are nothing compared to those we have just finished translating.

The runes sent by Keeper Hawen provide the location of an ancient holy site of the elves: the Temple of Dirthamen. Dirthamen is the elven god of secrets. It is impossible to say how old the temple is, but it is rumored to hold great wealth. Considering how much knowledge the Inquisition gained out of an excursion to a minute hole-in-the-wall in the Hinterlands, I beg you to consider funding an excursion to this temple. I will only need a small team of researchers and guards, but we will need at least a week in the temple, not including travel time. It should not be very expensive; there are a number of Dalish who would volunteer to guard this expedition free of charge.

Ma serannas, and may all of our gods smile upon us.

Dareth Shiral,

Pel Ashara, Inquisition Arcane Researcher

To Whom it May Concern:

The Grey Wardens are in a desperate hour. But in order to act, we must know where Corypheus is or risk giving our lives in vain. As I am certain this is already a priority for the Inquisition, all I ask is that the Wardens be informed when his location is known, and to have that location disclosed.

A letter addressed to Vivienne lies opened on the table. A note has been added to the top which reads: “Josephine, darling, you should take care of this. V.”

My dearest Vivienne,

You cannot have heard the shocking allegations against the Inquisition, or surely you would never have been seen with them. Allow me, as a friend, to open your eyes. People are saying that Divine Justinia is, indeed, alive, but that the Inquisition—her closest advisors and most trusted servants—have orchestrated all this chaos on her orders. That it was Seeker Pentaghast and Sister Nightingale who sabotaged the Conclave in order to eliminate the opposition within the Chantry, and cut off the heads of the mage rebellion and templars in a single stroke. To save your own reputation, you must escape this acquaintance immediately.

With deepest concern,
Vicomtesse Elodie de Morreau

To the Leaders of the Inquisition,

I would like to extend my most sincere apologies, again, from the New Templar Order, for the incident that occurred some days previous. I believe the cause of such an outburst from a normally calm and reasonable brother came from the stress of being around red lyrium. Lieutenant Cade seems to be under a great deal of strain as well, and I would prefer to have them both have their minds relieved of the concern of red lyrium.

Therefore, I would like to recommend that they be pulled, along with a few others who are openly expressing their concern, to the Emprise du Lion's hills, and focus their efforts on clearing out what remains in the valley basin. They can help Scout Everdeen with the evacuation of the village, and keep guard of our base camp.

I am sending this letter from Emprise du Lion, so I am afraid I will not be able to discuss anything with you until I return from Montemps.

I remain your humble soldier,

Concerning recent events with first the mage and then rifter populations of Skyhold, it is in the Inquisition's best interests to research alternate solutions to potentially irresponsible uses of magic beyond traditional methods. To that end, I am requesting resources to procure a Qunari mage's accouterments purely for research purposes.

It may be possible and it is my hope to adapt what the Qunari use as an alternative, most importantly a temporary one, to Tranquility.

Inquisition leadership,

As you are aware, overcrowding is an increasing problem facing us all. My fellow Councilors and I wish to propose an expansion onto the land nearby the river; with the capability of our mages, we might level and shore up the land to prepare and aid the building of a new structure, and create a bridge to allow ease of access between that and the existing Hold. We believe that such work and its cooperative nature would do a great deal not only for the practical requirements of our living quarters but for morale and cooperation between the disparate people who make up this Inquisition.

It is an ambitious project, but with your support, we would gladly undertake it.

On behalf of the Inquisition Council of Magi,

Leliana et al,

Let me not waste time; I had arranged for an elven artifact of considerable power to be delivered to Skyhold pending better weather to reduce the risk of it being damaged. Within a week it should be in the Hinterlands but increasingly those involved in transporting it have sent missives speaking of attacks, attempting to claim this artifact.

What I require is permission to take no more than two small teams to secure it before it falls into the hands of our enemy. With the Inquisition it provides us with a great advantage, if it falls into the hands of our enemy then it would be a devastating blow.

Leliana knows of what I speak, I trust her to convey the severity of these attacks and I will do my very best to ascertain the identity of the attackers.

To the Leaders of the Inquisition

I have been requested to write you on behalf of some voices within the Templar Order. I do not presume to speak on behalf of all Templars, but I will presume to put pen to paper to express the concerns of many, and I understand others of Templar rank have approached those among you individually with questions and concerns. This is regarding the matter of the mage known as Anders.

We wished to make it plain that many of us who still call ourselves Templars cannot morally approve of the mercies granted to Anders. As your notice acknowledged, his actions brought about the deaths of many, and continue to wreck havoc across Thedas to this day. That he deserves an execution is an opinion carried in the hearts of many. But I am writing to assure you that opinion will remain exactly that.

We officially recognise that Inquisition's judgement in this matter, and respect the decisions made by those we have pledged our swords to in this time of turmoil. Please know that if ever the Leadership of the Inquisition has need of our justice and our blades, they need only say the word.

Maker's blessings
Knight-Captain Marcus Kane

[ And, attached, a personal aside; ]

I hope this gesture reaches you all in good faith. It is my sense that many of us are feeling out the art of diplomacy between factions and upholding our ideals, while learning to be cohesive within Inquisition ranks. Voices are varied, some stronger than others, as will continue to be the case.

I have joined your ranks only recently during the efforts taken in Emprise du Lion. I have witnessed good work and anticipate seeing more done as peace is restored.

Faithfully

I've only minimally kept abreast of this Rifter business, having been pursuing my own research for the last few months, now, which will be another letter altogether (no news, only demands, your personal favourite). However, it's all becoming a little difficult to ignore, isn't it?

As no mage numbers amongst you, I would like to offer my services to assess the level of threat your current prisoner possesses. While no doubt Solas may offer insights as to the implications as to her Rifter status, perhaps I can be of service as to her other magics. Some recent correspondence across the crystals have presented some alarming implications as to her capacity, and strikes somewhat familiar chords.

All the best

Our leadership;

I would like to seek your permission and your support in a project I believe might contribute in some small way to the great work being done here. I am a writer of some experience, and I have a publisher in Orlais with whom I am in regular contact - I would like to publish my observations of what it is to live in Skyhold, of your people, what you achieve and what might yet be done. I am happy to include in this letter anything that you particularly wish highlighted, and equally, it would be perfectly acceptable to me that my work be vetted before being couriered to my publisher. I have no desire to inadvertently include details that might put at risk any of your people on assignment, or indeed any of us here in the hold.

If you see potential in my notion, I would be more than happy to discuss it at your convenience.

To the advisors;

I am pleased to let you know that some of the nobles, including the Duke, have donated generously to help fund our refugee housing and the barracks. Mia Rutherford, Ariadne Everdeen, and the Mage Council will be starting soon on getting materials, arranging for builders, and clearing the space. We'll also be looking for volunteers to help build.

I wanted to thank you, one and all, for your support, and I wanted to especially thank Lady Montilyet for her faith in my idea, and to Seeker Pentaghast for allowing me to borrow her audust august person for an audience to the Duke himself.

You four are those who have taught me that the Inquisition is more than an army, it is a second chance for all.

To the Leaders of the Inquisition:

As someone who has seen the devastation that red lyrium has caused to both body and mind, not to mention the landscape itself, something must be done stop its spread. If we study it, it's possible we can find a way to negate these strange new powers the Red Templars have gained, and we could save the lives of Inquisition soldiers. With the recent mission to Emprise du Lion, we now know firsthand that these Red Templars are more powerful, and that simply being around red lyrium has an adverse effect on people. Not only members of the Inquisition, but the townspeople of Sahrnia suffered simply from prolonged exposure to it.

I have a group of volunteers willing to help me study red lyrium. We all know the risks involved, but there are precautions we can take to make the study of it safer. I spoke with Varric Tethras about his methods, and I believe we can adopt them here to provide proper storage and handling. Would the Inquisition be willing to allow us to research red lyrium in the hopes of finding weaknesses to exploit when facing Red Templars, as well as combating the danger it poses to people who are exposed to it? With the amount of red lyrium throughout Emprise du Lion, samples can be easily obtained and stored in special trunks, warded by magical runes. Those who volunteer to study it will not be allowed exposure to it for long, to avoid the symptoms it gives. I also wish to point out that several of my volunteers are fellow mages, as well as Templars, and a Seeker as well. Red lyrium threatens us all, and I want to make it clear that this is not one group looking to unlock power for personal gain. We all wish to serve the Inquisition and protect people by working together on this.

I understand this is a dangerous undertaking and would be happy to elaborate on certain things and answer any questions you may have.

Respectfully,
Christine Delacroix

Inquistion Leadership,

More Rifters and new members of the Inquisition from all around Thedas arrive every day. As a Dalish elf who left her clan with little to no knowledge about much of the outside world and its customs, I'm sympathetic to the unique struggles these individuals face. I believe that numerous problematic events within the Inquisition that have happened in the past several months did, in part, result from a lack of understanding of cultural differences.

I would like to setup a school, of sorts. Students, whether they are from this world or not, can attend as they wish and learn everything from reading and writing to history to the different cultures of Thedas. They say knowledge is power, and I believe having a well-informed Inquisition can only help. Maybe it will even bring more people in!

I am requesting the following, if at all possible:
- a location to serve as a classroom
- seating for students
- writing materials
- reading materials as needed
- teachers
- anything I've forgotten

I would like to make the classes open to all residents of Skyhold and the surrounding area. I would also like to ask those already with us if there would be any interest in teaching (I imagine that would save money!), though I understand if you would like to approve of them before they start doing it formally.

If it helps, I have spoken to Cassandra about this already and she has said she supports the idea.

Thank you very much!

I've found a text referring to a scrying tool the ancient elves of Arlathan used. Its last known location was a dwarven thaig--Cadash Thaig--and I would like to take a team to investigate. Hopefully we could bring back a piece of this and restore it, and give the Inquisition a powerful tool against Corypheus.

Can anyone hear me? It's Warden Nathaniel Howe.

The First Warden has usurped the King of the Anderfels and Clarel's demon army is loose in Weisshaupt Fortress. Rumor has it Corypheus is coming. The Roostmaster has charged a few of us with bringing thirteen griffon hatchlings to Skyhold before the demons kill them. They eat chickens. The griffons, not the demons. Actual, live griffons.

Advisors of the Inquisition,

Upon investigating ruins wherein Venatori had been active, myself, Lady LeBlanc, Korrin, and Rifters Galadriel and a boy who calls himself the outsider, discovered a strange sight. Tevinters and demons were locked in battle, but frozen in time, and even the falling stone of the building stayed suspended in the air.

From notes we were able to gather, it seems that one group of mages led by one called Helladius was attempting to force open a tear in the Veil for the purposes of gained power. Another group sought to stop the experiment before it began. A magical mechanism that I will leave those more suited to studying it examine and explain allowed time to halt so to keep the damage from spreading. We ended it, fought off demons, closed the rift, and were left with ancient Tevinters from at least several Ages ago confused and angry.

Lady LeBlanc and I convinced them that we would find their help in understanding their magic invaluable and that we, the Inquisition, would in turn allow them to learn and come to grips with this new time they have found themselves in. I suggested - and I hope it does not overstep my bounds - that Lady Montilyet could get in touch with those in the Imperium at some point, to negotiate if there are any distant family members who would care to see their return, as a courtesy from us. It does not seem right that we should hold them from their homeland, even if it is Tevinter, if they should wish to leave, although I think the culture shock might leave some weak in the heart.

I should like to allow these mages to stay either at the newly liberated Griffon Wing Keep or at Skyhold under our protection, not only to keep an eye on them and learn from them, but to teach them as well and hopefully gain some powerful if confused allies. Please advise whether it would be better to keep them out in the desert or bring them to Skyhold, or to split the groups.

I worry that their status as Tevinters from a far off time may make them more of a target, and indeed there is internal bickering between the groups that can escalate to the point of needing to nullify their magics. Despite their dismay at the time passed, they are still brilliant - and in so, potentially dangerous, as their experimentation in the ruins have shown - mages we should want on our side if we can win them over. I will leave the specifics of how to deal with them, if indeed you care to deal with them, to you all.

Ever at your service,
Seeker Malcolm Reed

Rumors have been circulating that a small group of Red Templars have been seen not too far away in Orlais transporting red lyrium. As I am heading a research group that is studying it, I would like to send a team to intercept this caravan and confiscate it. No doubt the Red Templars will put up a fight, but if it is possible to capture one alive, would it be permissible to bring the Templar back for study? I assure you that such an individual would be kept behind such cautionary wards and special runes as the red lyrium samples we have here. And I am sure you will wish to detail other precautions that my team must take as well.

I am sorry to request this on such short notice, but my team and I must leave soon in order to intercept them, and I would require an answer before I go.

Advisors of the Inquisition:

Not long ago, I came into possession of clues relating to a weapon of elvish origin called the Sulevin Blade. Since that time, I've been doing research to understand where these clues lead, and I believe I've found the next place on my search in Orlais. I can't say whether it will lead me to the blade itself or to more clues, but I am writing this to ask for your help. The blade is an important artifact to my people, lost during the fall of the Dales. I believe if the Inquisition can recover it and put it to good use that it would not only inspire the elves we have here, but other Dalish as well. The Inquisition has been forming alliances all over, and I believe it would be only beneficial to gain Dalish allies to help in this fight. The Dalish are excellent at scouting and if we need to follow Red Templars, Venatori, or any other of Corypheus's allies into areas claimed by a clan, it would be good if the Dalish there were friendly towards us. We already have the support of Clan Frandruil, and though the Dalish of Rivain are distant, I've visited them and spoke of the Inquisition and its deeds. I hope you will allow me Inquisition resources to track down this artifact.

Ambassador Montilyet, Commander Rutherford, Sister Nightingale and Seeker Pentaghast—

There is an aspect of Highwind's death that I had not disclosed in my announcement through the crystals, but I now write it here because it is something of notable concern.

Specifically, it is the fact that Highwind did not die fighting a demon. He was, in fact, possessed by the demon despite the fact that he is not a mage. We had no choice but to engage him to put a stop to its rampage, and while we did manage to defeat the demon, it was at the cost of Highwind's life. We also decided to burn his remains before returning as we did not want to risk the chance of another demon - or even the same demon - coming to posses his corpse once more.

I chose to hide this fact away from the public since I do not wish to cause a panic. All of us are now acquainted with the Rifters in some form or fashion, and one incident should not alienate the rest. But since Highwind - a Rifter - had been possessed, I feel that it is important that this fact should at least be made aware to the relevant parties. With permission, I would also like to talk to Solas about this incident as well, in order to get his opinions about Highwind's situation since he knows best about the Fade and its effects. Whatever I have learned, I will relay it over.

Thank you for your time.

Inquistion Leadership,

The following is information I kept out of my initial mission report due to its sensitive nature.

Upon our return from the Anderfels we were accompanied by a young boy. His name is Baldewin, King Wilhelm's only son and from what we have gathered: the sole surviving member of the royal family. We learned of this survival through rumors circulating among the citizens of Hossberg and investigated to see if there was any truth to the matter. What we found was a fortress, once used by the royal family as a summer getaway, to be oddly fortified by Venatori and their slaves. This was despite the First Warden, Grey Wardens and Tevinter military having taken hold in the city proper. We were ultimately able to secure him by using old escape tunnels built into the fortress without alerting those in the fortress of our presence.

I know this was a risk to both our mission and the documents we retrieved from the Queen's handmaiden but none of us could bring ourselves to leave a child, who is the rightful King to the loyalists in the city, in the hands of those who now control the Anderfels. Only those who went on the mission know his true identity and we have made sure he is always in sight of one of us at all times. Ultimately, in the end, it is up to your what we can do for him from here on out. We await your order.

— Warden Ciri Cirilla

[ On the back of the note is a very colorful drawing of a little boy riding atop an equally colorful wyvern and surrounded by what looks to be baby griffons. They call have very unique names. Mostly it's super cute but also informal but Ciri is lazy and definitely didn't check to see what she was writing on. ]

My Best Personal Regards.

As part of the new Grey Warden leadership, I have a vital matter to bring to your attention.

It has been mutually agreed that the Grey Wardens and the Inquisition will be transparent with one another. Now that it is in my capacity to do so, I am disclosing to you information that has been a secret to all but a few of our order.

After the end of the Blight, organized darkspawn activity continued in a limited capacity. We thought it was the dying throes of the Blight at first, but it only got worse, not better. Some of the darkspawn were capable of speech and reason, which was unprecedented.

What we discovered was a darkspawn very much like Corypheus. He called himself the Architect, but it was not he who was causing the darkspawn to attack. The Architect's purpose was peaceful. He sought an alliance with the Wardens, for he had found a way to awaken the darkspawn and free them of the hive mind controlled by the Old Gods.

The cause of the darkspawn activity was a broodmother he had awakened in this way. She had been driven mad by her newfound independence. Killing her with the Architect's help ended the organized attacks. The darkspawn and ghouls under the Architect's direction have not troubled us since. In fact, we have heard nothing of the Architect since then, and do not have his location at all.

This was never revealed before because it was not our prerogative to do so. The Warden-Commander alone could make the decision. But we cannot wait any longer for a higher authority to tell us what to do. As the Architect is a being like Corypheus, he may be our most valued ally--or Corypheus'. Either way, it is in the best interest of all the world to avoid letting the Inquisition be blindsided by him, or miss a resource that may be necessary in order to win this war. I urge against hasty action, for the Architect is an ally of the Wardens until we learn otherwise. Do not make an enemy of him. He is powerful.

It is the desire of the Wardens to have a dialogue with the Inquisition about current relations with the Architect. The shift in power within the Wardens raises the question of whether this alliance with the Architect should continue. Those of us who have met the Architect do not believe he is an active threat and advise against warfare against him, but the question of the alliance has been raised. We would like the Inquisition to help us answer this question, and make it clear that our first loyalty is to the continued wellbeing of this world, and to the Inquisition.

Yours in Common Purpose,
Senior Warden Nathaniel Howe
