To the Leaders of the Inquisition:

Aneth Ara

After nearly two months of work, my colleague Morrigan and I have managed to translate a series of Veilfire runes found in the Dales by a local Keeper, who sketched them and sent them to us. My last two reports have shown the pursuit of these ruins to be fruitful for the Inquisition. While the runes from these reports have provided useful knowledge, they are nothing compared to those we have just finished translating.

The runes sent by Keeper Hawen provide the location of an ancient holy site of the elves: the Temple of Dirthamen. Dirthamen is the elven god of secrets. It is impossible to say how old the temple is, but it is rumored to hold great wealth. Considering how much knowledge the Inquisition gained out of an excursion to a minute hole-in-the-wall in the Hinterlands, I beg you to consider funding an excursion to this temple. I will only need a small team of researchers and guards, but we will need at least a week in the temple, not including travel time. It should not be very expensive; there are a number of Dalish who would volunteer to guard this expedition free of charge.

Ma serannas, and may all of our gods smile upon us.

Dareth Shiral,

Pel Ashara, Inquisition Arcane Researcher

To Whom it May Concern:

The Grey Wardens are in a desperate hour. But in order to act, we must know where Corypheus is or risk giving our lives in vain. As I am certain this is already a priority for the Inquisition, all I ask is that the Wardens be informed when his location is known, and to have that location disclosed.

Your Obedient Servant,
Senior Warden Nathaniel Howe

Senior Warden,

Your request is noted, and your desire to find Corypheus shared by many. Please do not doubt that the Wardens will be informed of the darkspawn's location when it is necessary for them to know.

Thank you for your continued service to the Inquisition.

( after some debate on how urgent it was to address the matter of the temple, Leliana has opted to take point on this particular project, in part due to speaking with Morrigan on the urgency of coming to better understand ancient lore and knowledge in their battle against Corypheus. )

Pel Ashara,

My thanks for the update. The continued efforts of those dedicated to discovering more of the secrets of the arcane and your people are essential to our cause.

This project will be supported and funded.
( "from those funds dedicated to my agents," she could add, but chooses not to. there is no need for such manipulation here, even if it is the truth. )

Additionally, I would be glad to select a small group of agents suited to support the task. Do you have an estimation on how many will be required for the trip? Our resources are finite, but for such a task as this, I believe a carefully considered expedition is both important and necessary.

( she and Josephine are also discussing some potential diplomatic assistance, if such a thing can be drummed up. )

Leliana,

Only two scholars, I think, and a few guards. The last expedition--a mere band of treasure-hunters, by all accounts--never returned. I expect the temple is quite dangerous, as such places are, where there is significant evidence that the Veil is thin. It might be wise for some of the guards to have shards of the Mark, whether rifters or no, in case there is a rift in the temple when we arrive. I also urge you to send someone who is adept with locks.

A letter addressed to Vivienne lies opened on the table. A note has been added to the top which reads: “Josephine, darling, you should take care of this. V.”

My dearest Vivienne,

You cannot have heard the shocking allegations against the Inquisition, or surely you would never have been seen with them. Allow me, as a friend, to open your eyes. People are saying that Divine Justinia is, indeed, alive, but that the Inquisition—her closest advisors and most trusted servants—have orchestrated all this chaos on her orders. That it was Seeker Pentaghast and Sister Nightingale who sabotaged the Conclave in order to eliminate the opposition within the Chantry, and cut off the heads of the mage rebellion and templars in a single stroke. To save your own reputation, you must escape this acquaintance immediately.

With deepest concern,
Vicomtesse Elodie de Morreau

To the Leaders of the Inquisition,

I would like to extend my most sincere apologies, again, from the New Templar Order, for the incident that occurred some days previous. I believe the cause of such an outburst from a normally calm and reasonable brother came from the stress of being around red lyrium. Lieutenant Cade seems to be under a great deal of strain as well, and I would prefer to have them both have their minds relieved of the concern of red lyrium.

Therefore, I would like to recommend that they be pulled, along with a few others who are openly expressing their concern, to the Emprise du Lion's hills, and focus their efforts on clearing out what remains in the valley basin. They can help Scout Everdeen with the evacuation of the village, and keep guard of our base camp.

I am sending this letter from Emprise du Lion, so I am afraid I will not be able to discuss anything with you until I return from Montemps.

I remain your humble soldier,

James Norrington

Knight Commander Norrington,

After discussing with the other Advisers, your recommendation to remove said Templars to the hills of Emprise du Lion to have them focus their efforts in clearing out the basin and help evacuate the village.

Should any other concerns arise, I implore you to contact myself or Seeker Pentaghast immediately.

Concerning recent events with first the mage and then rifter populations of Skyhold, it is in the Inquisition's best interests to research alternate solutions to potentially irresponsible uses of magic beyond traditional methods. To that end, I am requesting resources to procure a Qunari mage's accouterments purely for research purposes.

It may be possible and it is my hope to adapt what the Qunari use as an alternative, most importantly a temporary one, to Tranquility.

Signed,
Simon Tam

Ser,

The potential abuses of such a collar as those forced upon the Saarebas are numerous, and as such we cannot fund or support the acquisition of such an item within the Inquisition. Mages will not be shackled under the Inquisition. Their freedom and safety, as well as that of all our members, are of the utmost import.

We cannot indulge your curiosity.

Inquisition leadership,

As you are aware, overcrowding is an increasing problem facing us all. My fellow Councilors and I wish to propose an expansion onto the land nearby the river; with the capability of our mages, we might level and shore up the land to prepare and aid the building of a new structure, and create a bridge to allow ease of access between that and the existing Hold. We believe that such work and its cooperative nature would do a great deal not only for the practical requirements of our living quarters but for morale and cooperation between the disparate people who make up this Inquisition.

It is an ambitious project, but with your support, we would gladly undertake it.

On behalf of the Inquisition Council of Magi,

Leliana et al,

Let me not waste time; I had arranged for an elven artifact of considerable power to be delivered to Skyhold pending better weather to reduce the risk of it being damaged. Within a week it should be in the Hinterlands but increasingly those involved in transporting it have sent missives speaking of attacks, attempting to claim this artifact.

What I require is permission to take no more than two small teams to secure it before it falls into the hands of our enemy. With the Inquisition it provides us with a great advantage, if it falls into the hands of our enemy then it would be a devastating blow.

Leliana knows of what I speak, I trust her to convey the severity of these attacks and I will do my very best to ascertain the identity of the attackers.

Lady Thevenet,

After much discussion, the Advisors approve the Council's plan to build a new structure for housing, but do not approve of the bridge.

The bridge causes many concerns, all of which link back to the security of Skyhold. Were we not currently at war, a secondary entrance into Skyhold would be acceptable. But, considering the nature of our enemy, the secondary entrance is not strategically viable. a secondary entrance would divide our forces should at attack happen.

Should you have concerns regarding our decision, please let us know.

[ As it happens, the letter is intercepted by Cassandra before the other advisors even realize that it exists. Furious at being impertinently challenged yet again, she pens an immediate reply. ]

To the elves,

If by "human men" you refer to the continued freedom of the criminal Anders, I invite you to bring your concerns to the Wardens. They will doubtless be interested to hear your complaints. As for the Inquisition, we are not in the habit of explaining our every decision simply to indulge the curiosity of all who ask.

We remain firm in our commitment to the safety of all Inquisition members and refugees, including the Dalish who have come to Skyhold seeking our banner. Need I remind you that Galadriel is not of this world, and her history and motives are unknown to us all? There is no historical weight to her imprisonment as she is not of the elves of Thedas.

Be assured that Galadriel's arrest was on just grounds, and that she remains in her cell for the greater good, as well as the continued safety of the Inquisition and the residents of Skyhold.

No further statement will be released.

Commander Rutherford,

We do not claim to be experts in either matters of military defense nor the best architectural design. We are happy to defer to the Advisors and suitable craftsmen in how to make this housing accessible to Skyhold and defensible in the event of an attack. It is our intent not to simply build it ourselves, but to prepare the land and facilitate the project as an opportunity to work alongside the rest of the Inquisition.

However, we must clarify that it was never our intent to propose a second entrance to the hold (we do not propose any alteration to Skyhold beyond the existing repairs) - rather, as we will be preparing land on the other side of the river, there will simply need to be a means of accessing it, and a bridge across the river is the most expedient method. A tunnel would be more complicated, but we would be glad to consider other options with your guidance.

To the Leaders of the Inquisition

I have been requested to write you on behalf of some voices within the Templar Order. I do not presume to speak on behalf of all Templars, but I will presume to put pen to paper to express the concerns of many, and I understand others of Templar rank have approached those among you individually with questions and concerns. This is regarding the matter of the mage known as Anders.

We wished to make it plain that many of us who still call ourselves Templars cannot morally approve of the mercies granted to Anders. As your notice acknowledged, his actions brought about the deaths of many, and continue to wreck havoc across Thedas to this day. That he deserves an execution is an opinion carried in the hearts of many. But I am writing to assure you that opinion will remain exactly that.

We officially recognise that Inquisition's judgement in this matter, and respect the decisions made by those we have pledged our swords to in this time of turmoil. Please know that if ever the Leadership of the Inquisition has need of our justice and our blades, they need only say the word.

Maker's blessings
Knight-Captain Marcus Kane

[ And, attached, a personal aside; ]

I hope this gesture reaches you all in good faith. It is my sense that many of us are feeling out the art of diplomacy between factions and upholding our ideals, while learning to be cohesive within Inquisition ranks. Voices are varied, some stronger than others, as will continue to be the case.

I have joined your ranks only recently during the efforts taken in Emprise du Lion. I have witnessed good work and anticipate seeing more done as peace is restored.

Faithfully
- Knight-Capt. M. K.

Leliana, Josephine, Cullen, Cassandra

I've only minimally kept abreast of this Rifter business, having been pursuing my own research for the last few months, now, which will be another letter altogether (no news, only demands, your personal favourite). However, it's all becoming a little difficult to ignore, isn't it?

As no mage numbers amongst you, I would like to offer my services to assess the level of threat your current prisoner possesses. While no doubt Solas may offer insights as to the implications as to her Rifter status, perhaps I can be of service as to her other magics. Some recent correspondence across the crystals have presented some alarming implications as to her capacity, and strikes somewhat familiar chords.

All the best
Dorian

Our leadership;

I would like to seek your permission and your support in a project I believe might contribute in some small way to the great work being done here. I am a writer of some experience, and I have a publisher in Orlais with whom I am in regular contact - I would like to publish my observations of what it is to live in Skyhold, of your people, what you achieve and what might yet be done. I am happy to include in this letter anything that you particularly wish highlighted, and equally, it would be perfectly acceptable to me that my work be vetted before being couriered to my publisher. I have no desire to inadvertently include details that might put at risk any of your people on assignment, or indeed any of us here in the hold.

If you see potential in my notion, I would be more than happy to discuss it at your convenience.

With respect,

Lady Thevenet,

A misunderstanding on our part, forgive me.

A bridge across the river would be more than suitable to build, and would benefit plenty, not just the Inquisition. I would urge you to push the thought of a tunnel far from your mind; I wouldn't recommend digging at all in this terrain.

The project is a commendable one. If we can offer any more assistance, please ask.

To the advisors;

I am pleased to let you know that some of the nobles, including the Duke, have donated generously to help fund our refugee housing and the barracks. Mia Rutherford, Ariadne Everdeen, and the Mage Council will be starting soon on getting materials, arranging for builders, and clearing the space. We'll also be looking for volunteers to help build.

I wanted to thank you, one and all, for your support, and I wanted to especially thank Lady Montilyet for her faith in my idea, and to Seeker Pentaghast for allowing me to borrow her audust august person for an audience to the Duke himself.

You four are those who have taught me that the Inquisition is more than an army, it is a second chance for all.

Dear Knight Captain Marcus,

We assure you that your Order's opinions have been received in good faith. Our decisions will rarely be able to satisfy the competing beliefs and viewpoints of the many diverse factions that exist within the Inquisition. This is a reality we have had to come to terms with, despite our best efforts.

While we acknowledge that many still call for Anders' execution, we maintain that this was never our decision to make. We are pleased to note that our judgement is to be respected.

We are very thankful for the numbers of Templars that have pledged their services to the Inquisition and our cause.

- Josephine Montilyet

Dear Lady Gwenaëlle,

Your project sounds most delightful. Personally, I am in agreement that the story of the Inquisition must be spread and wide. You are right to note, however, that some matters must be dealt with most delicately. We will be glad to grant our approval for your publication so long as the issues are run by us first.

Warm regards,
