My Best Personal Regards.

As part of the new Grey Warden leadership, I have a vital matter to bring to your attention.

It has been mutually agreed that the Grey Wardens and the Inquisition will be transparent with one another. Now that it is in my capacity to do so, I am disclosing to you information that has been a secret to all but a few of our order.

After the end of the Blight, organized darkspawn activity continued in a limited capacity. We thought it was the dying throes of the Blight at first, but it only got worse, not better. Some of the darkspawn were capable of speech and reason, which was unprecedented.

What we discovered was a darkspawn very much like Corypheus. He called himself the Architect, but it was not he who was causing the darkspawn to attack. The Architect's purpose was peaceful. He sought an alliance with the Wardens, for he had found a way to awaken the darkspawn and free them of the hive mind controlled by the Old Gods.

The cause of the darkspawn activity was a broodmother he had awakened in this way. She had been driven mad by her newfound independence. Killing her with the Architect's help ended the organized attacks. The darkspawn and ghouls under the Architect's direction have not troubled us since. In fact, we have heard nothing of the Architect since then, and do not have his location at all.

This was never revealed before because it was not our prerogative to do so. The Warden-Commander alone could make the decision. But we cannot wait any longer for a higher authority to tell us what to do. As the Architect is a being like Corypheus, he may be our most valued ally--or Corypheus'. Either way, it is in the best interest of all the world to avoid letting the Inquisition be blindsided by him, or miss a resource that may be necessary in order to win this war. I urge against hasty action, for the Architect is an ally of the Wardens until we learn otherwise. Do not make an enemy of him. He is powerful.

It is the desire of the Wardens to have a dialogue with the Inquisition about current relations with the Architect. The shift in power within the Wardens raises the question of whether this alliance with the Architect should continue. Those of us who have met the Architect do not believe he is an active threat and advise against warfare against him, but the question of the alliance has been raised. We would like the Inquisition to help us answer this question, and make it clear that our first loyalty is to the continued wellbeing of this world, and to the Inquisition.

Yours in Common Purpose,
Senior Warden Nathaniel Howe
